【英美語文】請問關於音節的分別

已經脫離學生生活一段時間了,初次發言請多多指教。

因為想考英檢開始背單字,但是常常發現自己看單字猜出來的發音跟翻字典查到的發音相去甚遠,所以想請教母音在單字中的數量是否會讓發音有規律性的影響?

要不要先談談你說的「規律性影響」是什麼?

嗯...例如說patrornymic跟paternalist這兩個單字,前者是pa'tro...、另一個則是pater'na..這樣(音標打不出來,請將就一下),這個東西為什麼會長這樣到現在仍然搞不懂,所以想請教一下。

....事後才發現這個標題下的很糟囧

I don't think there's a certain rule really as to how English words are pronounced. There's, afterall...like...7 different accents from the top of my head, and for certain words, they're all said differently and it's all valid (to a certain degree). This probably doesn't answer your question (I'll leave dale to do that - he seems helpful as per usual :p) but I reckon you should watch a bit more movie or listen to a bit more music or even English radio stations and eventually, you'll be able to get more of the different pronunciations. It's all relative rather than concrete rules.

一個音節裡面(以發音來看:像是hour前面要接an的定理是相同的)一定會有一個母音

pa-tror-ny-mic

pa-ter-na-list

大概就是這樣

(我在美國學的 所以關於其他口音的發音方式我不清楚=P)

如果我沒記錯的話好像有"字根字典"這種東西

你去找找應該會有*nod

一個音節裡面不一定會有一個母音,但幾乎都會有一個 nucleus──至少我現在想不到例外。如果以母音來思考就沒有辦法解釋 diphthongs 甚至 triphthongs 的情況(例:kite 為什麼不是兩個音節?)。

(題外話:patrornymic 應該是筆誤,正確的拼法是 patronymic。)
