感官動詞用法：

A see/hear/feel B + VR/Ving

B be seen/heard/felt + to VR(原來的VR改成) / Ving (原來的Ving不變) by A

而punished 是更進一步簡化的結果（少用）

另一種解釋是Tom was seen (and was) punished by his .....

用到the，必定有指定意味（有時亦指唯一的意思），而要指定，不是前面曾提過就是後方有特定說明，這裡都沒有，為何要用the?

就拿這個例子說吧

中文：貓喜歡跳舞

英文：Cats like to dance.

而不是 The cats like to dance.

因為中文沒有指定啊
